At midday today, BERTIE the BEET was harvested. With pupils from Barrow Primary School looking on, BERTIE was lifted from the soil using a traditional beet fork.
As can be seen in the photo, BERTIE 2006 is an unusual shape. Instead of a single tapered tap root, BERTIE 2006 has a fangy root shape, similar to BERTIE 2004.
BERTIE 2006 is a large beet, weighing in at 1.897kg. He is currently being analysed and we will know his sugar content later today.
